GPT-Live-1 Brings Full-Duplex Voice Agents to the OpenAI API
OpenAI has released GPT-Live-1 in the API with simultaneous listening and speaking, stronger interruption handling, telephony support, and delegation to backend reasoning models.

OpenAI has released GPT-Live-1 in the API for developers building real-time voice applications and business workflows. The model is designed to listen and speak at the same time, allowing conversations to feel less like rigid turn-taking and more like a natural phone call.
The API release adds controls for tone, pace, conversational style, interruption handling, background noise, and longer sessions. GPT-Live-1 can also delegate deeper reasoning or tool work to a backend text model while the voice interaction continues.
OpenAI is positioning the model for uses such as customer support, reservations, education, and other phone or voice-agent workflows. The company says telephony support is built into the release and that developers can pair the voice layer with the reasoning model and agent harness that fit their application.
GPT-Live-1 is available in the API now, with OpenAI listing the front-end voice layer at $0.05 per minute before the cost of any backend model or tools.
ToFindAI Take
Voice AI is moving from scripted call trees toward persistent conversational agents that can interrupt, listen, reason, and take action. That makes voice-agent tools increasingly relevant to customer service, booking, sales, healthcare, and internal operations.
Why it matters
A more natural full-duplex voice layer can reduce latency and simplify the multi-component speech architectures that developers have traditionally had to assemble themselves.
Who this affects
Voice AI developers, customer-support platforms, call centers, reservation systems, educators, healthcare software providers, and businesses using telephone automation.
